How far did I get without a telescope?

I have had an interest in astronomy for many years, but have lacked either the finances or the space (or both) to get a decent telescope.
Finally, following a change of bank on our mortgage (at a much cheaper rate!), everything has come together.
Before now, I've had a few cameras over the last 30-odd years, and the odd pair of binoculars, but nothing too expensive.
